Zohrab Salam-zadeh
Zohrab Salam-zadeh is an Azerbaijani artist whose work deeply connects to his cultural heritage and the theater, expressed through a contemporary lens. Each piece reflects his personal experiences and pays homage to the cultural codes that have shaped him, with meticulously researched costumes, figures, and intricate details showcasing his dedication to authenticity and narrative depth. Growing up in Baku, surrounded by its rich history and artistic community, Salam-zadeh's early fascination with drawing and visual storytelling was influenced by his family's background—his mother an architect and his father an engineer—shaping his understanding of structure and creative expression.
Salam-zadeh employs a distinctive approach that blends various techniques and materials. He often uses synthetic canvas to enhance brush longevity and support the delicate application of details, underscoring his commitment to precision. His method features a seamless integration of oil paint with other mediums, allowing for decorative elements that enrich his compositions. The costumes, images, and details are all carefully studied and specifically drawn. I always refer to our history, beliefs, mythology, religion, and mentality."
