Regina Rzaeva

Regina Rzaeva is an artist whose work navigates the subconscious, the inner self, and the metaphorical perception of reality. Rzaeva’s practice is rooted in traditional painting techniques, where her fascination with the interplay of materials - particularly fabric and canvas - takes center stage. Her distinct method of applying oil paint in fine vertical lines is inspired by the traditions of carpet weaving, a craft that captivated her during her student years.

Thematically, her art delves into time, transformation, and the fragility of self-awareness, contemplating the impermanence of perception. Incorporating archival photographs, personal diaries, vintage costumes, and transparent objects, Rzaeva crafts layered narratives that invite viewers to uncover concealed meanings. One of her early solo exhibitions reimagined the "Hunt of the Unicorn" medieval tapestry series, exploring the paradox of safety and confinement, while her latest project invites audiences on a journey through landscapes symbolizing the earthly and celestial. These projects envision a boundless space where time flows freely, offering a reflection on the fluid nature of existence.

"My artistic approach can be described as observant. In my visual language, everyday objects carry meanings and I strive to explore their depths. Solve the mystery of reality and perception, revealing the hidden meanings that lie beneath the surface."
